What is combat?

Umbra Combat is led by experienced UFC fighter John ‘hitman’ Hathaway.

We offer MMA, grappling, catch wrestling and Shootbox classes. Our coaches have vast experience between them and enjoy passing on this knowledge to people who want to train, to get fit, or prepare for a fight/match.

FAQ’s

What do I need to bring with me?

You MUST bring a gum shield with you. We can provide all the pads you will need. We

advise you to purchase your own when you are ready. It is recommended that you bring a towel with you.

Can I train for fun or only competition?

You can train for either or both. We will support your fitness journey and if you want to compete and progress through the amateur to professional we will be there.

What do I wear?

You do not have to buy any fancy gear - however, you will need to wear POCKETLESS shorts with no zips or buttons and a t-shirt (no vests). Please make sure all piercings and jewellery are removed.

It is important to have short nails to decrease the risk of scratching. Please also be aware of your personal hygiene as there is close contact with others during class.

What type of classes do you have?

We have classes focusing on different elements of combat including Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), Grappling, Shootbox, Catch Wrestling and Open Mats.

Do I need to have experience?

Our coaches were beginners once so they understand it is sometimes daunting starting something new. Our classes are mixed ability, except for open mats- for safety this is for experienced fighters. If you have any questions, please contact us and speak to John.

Will I get hurt?

All combat classes have an element of risk of injury due to the nature of the sport. However, all techniques are taught as safely as possible. During sparring, you will be paired on size and ability. If you have any questions please contact us or speak to John for more details.
